2nd Lieutenant Margaret Peterson enrolled in the American Red Cross Nursing Service in 1942. In October she passed her examinations at Fort Douglas and was sworn into the U.S. Army Nurse Corps on 30 October 1942. Peterson was first assigned to duty at Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City, Utah. In April 1943, she was transferred to the 104th Evacuation Hospital.
